Sacramento County Perinatal Equity Initiative (PEI) Midwifery Scholarships

Introduction

Since 2021, Sacramento County has been actively involved in the State of California’s Perinatal Equity Initiative (PEI), striving to bridge gaps in maternal and infant health disparities. As a part of this vital initiative, Sacramento County is proud to offer scholarships designed to empower Black students to pursue midwifery education. The overarching goal is to increase access to midwifery care for Black families within Sacramento County, ensuring equitable healthcare services. To date, 11 deserving students have been awarded these scholarships, enabling them to embark on a journey towards a rewarding career in midwifery.

Scholarship Details

Sacramento County’s Midwifery Scholarship program for Black students is committed to fostering diversity within the field of midwifery. These scholarships are intended to support Black individuals who aspire to become midwives and subsequently serve the Sacramento community.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Sacramento County Midwifery Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Identify as Black.
  2. Be committed to addressing healthcare disparities in Sacramento County.
  3. Demonstrate a genuine passion for midwifery care.

Application Requirements

Applicants are required to submit the following documentation:

  1. Completed scholarship application form.
  2. Proof of enrollment in a midwifery college program.
  3. An essay addressing how they plan to contribute to improving healthcare services in Sacramento County upon graduation.

Scholarship Recipients

Since the inception of this program in 2021, Sacramento County has proudly supported 11 promising individuals in their pursuit of midwifery education. These scholarship recipients are dedicated to positively impacting maternal and infant healthcare within the county.

6 recipients are enrolled in the University of California San Francisco Nurse (UCSF) Midwifery program.
– 5 recipients are pursuing their education in licensed Midwifery programs approved by the Medical Board of California.

Scholarship Application Dates

For those interested in applying for the Sacramento County Midwifery Scholarship, please take note of the following application periods:

November 1, 2023, to December 20th, 2023

This is the first opportunity to apply for the scholarship in the upcoming year.

April 3, 2024, to May 6, 2024

This is the first opportunity to apply for the scholarship in the upcoming year.
